Building images (Frances Hansen) Untitled (3)

I enjoy this sort of art work, working with only strands of lines, adjusting the thickness or the thinness of each line. Forming something as a portrait from expressive lines is remarkable in my eyes. Looking at this work I believe the process started from one line and gradually more expressive and structured lines were added.

I find this art piece very intriguing as it has symbolism in it. Simple yet compelling with the composition of each image, colours used is limited but very effective and that sense of story telling is portrayed within this art piece. I believe this work represents empowerment and it purpose is to create awareness in understanding ones roots. This art piece is by the artist Margaret Aull.

I am interested in the expressive strokes, and the impression of this art work. As if a moment of frustration erupted, creating a form of unpredicted yet structured forms. The negative space in-between, the black and white swirling together in conversation with one another. I think this work gives the sense of resentment or a memory from the past that has traumatised the individual, hence why the image has been smudged or rubbed out. Leaving only certain elements of the art work intact, like figures of people sexually active etc. As if the artist is trying to erase a memory from the past. The artist Rob Mcleah untitled, Inside Gymnast, produced this art piece 2010, enamel on aluminium stainless steel, 76x54 cm.
